I'm definitely feeling discouraged this Independence Day, but also hope we can all turn our anger into energy for the resistance. Stay safe today, but let's send a message. This entire party needs to be pushed down.

At least WWF/WWE was entertainment, even though it wasn’t my thing.

It’s UFC he wants. For everyone. Sheer barbarity, dressed up as the acme of masculinity — nothing more than a gladiatorial renaissance, which is good because soon much of America won’t have bread.

Oh, but the circuses, they’ll be ratcheted up to 11.

I hope y’all can find the means to fight with everything you have. And that next July 4 is a redo to start a better quarter-millennium of democracy.

Dear Rosie, I too have long covid & many issues. I’m sorry you had to move as that is quite an expense. I appreciate your messages!! Keep writing to encourage us. All the best

Thank you Becky. I'm sorry you're dealing with this as well. It most definitely is not cheap, even without a move. Especially now. =(

I can’t celebrate today. I’m depressed and distressed. But I’ll be ready to fight again on Monday. I have to be.

Because millions marched after 2016 and in 2020, and here we still are, in a far worse position with little headway being made and strangely low levels of protest, it does not feel like we are on the pivot point of great change. It feels as if we have been taken over and people fear retaliation in an environment of unknown threat levels. The potential population of activist protestors appears to be small, and the number of people who back the destruction of the federal government, separation of powers, US Constitution and a wide variety of institutions appears to be large. I use the word “appears,” intentionally, and I do not watch FOX News. There seems to be a far greater difficulty in mobilizing resistance in 2024 than there was in 16, and that must be overcome, now. 31B dollars for ICE in the OBBB may not be about immigration before this is all over with. We all know we need immigrants to run our economy. Mass mobilizations need to punctuate a steady resistance like the ticking of a slow but building metronome. Resistance must mobilize faster than they do. Appearances are everything in this theatrical age, so showing up en masse, and regularly, is the only thing that will move people toward hope. Resistance must mobilize and appear to be overwhelming in numbers, quickly.

A lot of MAGAs are going to realize fairly soon the shit storm that's coming for all of us. When they lose their SNAP or their Medicaid. When there's no nursing home for an ailing Grannie and they don't have the room, money or resources to care for her. When the tariffs and the loss of immigrant workers causes the price of food and necessary household items to skyrocket even further. When ICE starts kidnapping their own family members. Etc. The ripple effect of the big bullshit bill will be much more like a tsunami. I fear that when they finally wake up and smell the coffee that extreme violence will be the response. January 6th 2021 showed the world what they are capable of. Maybe we need a repeat of the American Revolution? I don't know.

It just feels like there are too many of the "worst people" to overcome. Realizing that so many people seem to want this is what makes it so discouraging...

I know how you feel, but I don't think that 48% really want this, they just don't realize what's really going on. They have no idea what's coming.

I agree. Warped messaging is our biggest challenge. Very few would tolerate this if they understood. They're being lied to at every turn and told to not trust anyone but the lying messenger. It's still hard to not criticize their lack of curiosity, but at the core I don't think they're evil.

At 83 I’m feeling feisty, focused and ready for the next round! I’m celebrating with like minded individuals today because this isn’t the other team’s land, even though they may think so. It’s Our Land. Them too!

I have been awake for two hours and have cried several times already. I already know that I have zero tolerance for celebration. I WILL be snarky, sharp and rude if I have to deal with happy idiots.

Better stay home then - they are all over the place. My neighbor just brought me some "4th of July cake" - Red Velvet. (Red, white, and the blue is me.) I, too, wanted to be snarky, but she's very sweet and rather simple. Not looking forward to hearing the fireworks tonight that I used to love.

Good advice and that's what I did 😹 Windows closed, music and news on at higher than usual volume. I used to love fireworks, too😔

It's OK to grieve - our grief is real. We will sit with that for a couple of days and then use it to fuel our outrage and sense of purpose and forge ahead!

Maybe fireworks next year? : )

I just had a semi-facetious thought: I should waste some money on a small box of fireworks and set one off every time 47 gets handed a court loss or when a magat receives justice. I have a stage voice; I can announce the reason for the celebratory bang. The yahoos around here set off fireworks all damn summer, so it is highly unlikely that the po-po will care lol

Well, no Fourth of July as before. But instead this is the 4th of July for the beginning of a "We the people country, for the people.". I am so frustrated, angry, and ready to stop playing games. I want my country back!

Thanks Rosie for reminding me about our recent history (1968) and the good that came out of chaos and death. It helps me believe we can get through this painful time to a better place.

Thanks for the reminders of our history. I would add the expression "this, too, shall pass". It just really sucks to be going backwards. And it is painful to witness cruelty being celebrated. But, yes, there are more of us who value true freedom, democracy, diversity, kindness and a just society. So persevere we will!
